Conditioning by Cortisol for the Production of Acute Massive Myocardial Necroses During Neuromuscular Exertion

چکیده

PREVIOUS observations 1 have shown that rats, pretreated with 2-methyl-9a-chlorocortisol (Me-Cl-COL) and an excess of dietary phosphate, develop massive myocardial necroses within a few hours following exposure to various stressor agents. Me-Cl-COL is an artificial synthetic steroid which does not occur in nature; it possesses rather unusual pharmacologic properties in that it is not only extraordinarily active as a mineralocorticoid, but it also exhibits some glucocorticoid effects. I t was therefore important to determine: (1) whether cortisol* (a predominantly glucocorticoid substance known to be produced in excess during stress in man) could take the place of Me-Cl-COL in conditioning the rat for the production of acute myoeardial necroses by neuromuscular exertion and (2) whether desoxycorticosterone (a virtually pure mineralocorticoid) exhibits similar effects.

The Chemistry of the Steroids

necroses sometimes resulted with the steroid "conditioning" itself. An increased incidence of the necrotic changes in the myocardium was produced by dietary supplements of various sodium salts, especially sulfate, phosphate, and perchlorate. Whereas sodium salts predisposed to or enhanced the production of myocardial necrosis, potassium and magnesium salts protected the myocardium from damage. ...

Effect of losartan on NOX2 transcription following acute myocardial ischemia-reperfusion

Introduction: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase-2 (Nox2) is one of the predominant sources of ROS production during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion and can be induced by angiotensin II. The evidence suggests that pharmacological blockers of renin-angiotensin system can exert direct tissue effects independent of their ability to regulate blood pressure. The mechanism...

Chlorides, Potassium and Experimental Cardiac Necroses

• The importance of potassium and various chlorides in the pathogenesis of several experimental cardiac necroses was first suggested by the observation that all the potassium salts (phosphates, sulfates, chloride, etc.) and all the chlorides (of magnesium, potassium, ammonium, etc.) tested were effective in preventing the myocardial lesions, while no other salts had such an effect. In a previou...

Emotional Triggers of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death around the world. Identification of triggers that lead to acute coronary events in ischemic heart diseases and their prevention can reduce the complications of myocardial infarction. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine emotional triggers in patients with acute Myocardial Infarction (MI). Materials and Metho...
